On Monday, October 8, 2018, partners Amy T. Brooks, Amy P. De Shong, and Claudia L. Huot presented on pertinent education and family law topics at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute 2018 Exceptional Children Conference held in Lancaster, PA.
- Amy T. Brooks presented on the topic Ethical Considerations. What are your present ethical levels, goals, and baselines? Find out in an interactive, technology rich ethics discussion for special education attorneys. Participation and laughter required.
- Amy P. De Shong presented on the topic Custody in Special Education. When family and education law collide, difficult and emotionally charged issues arise. A parent moves out of the child’s district, parents disagree about a child’s IEP, parents separate and/or divorce during your representation, parents lose custody to grandparents and other third parties. In an interactive and fast paced format, hear how a trial judge, an education law attorney, and a family law attorney handle and resolve these and other problems.
- Claudia L. Huot presented on the topic Sexual Misconduct in the Schools. This session will address the intersection of Title IX with the IDEA and Section 504. The discussion will examine this intersection not only when the child with disabilities is the victim of sexual misconduct, but also when the child with disabilities is the perpetrator of such conduct.
