November 10, 2008—Jeffrey P. Wallack, a partner in the firm’s construction law and commercial litigation departments, was a speaker at a National Business Institute seminar in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania entitled, “Construction Law Fundamentals: Managing Project Risk.”  Mr. Wallack spoke about Overcoming Common Construction Problems (including delay and disruption claims, changes to work, project acceleration and lien claims) and Dispute Resolution Vehicles That Work (including arbitration, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution techniques).  Mr. Wallack’s practice concentrates on the representation of contractors, subcontractors and owners in construction disputes and other construction-related matters, in addition to the representation of clients in commercial litigation  and insurance coverage matters.


May 14, 2008Megan Shafer and Ken Roos of the firm’s education and employment law departments were guest speakers at a regular meeting of the Eastern Pennsylvania Association of School Personnel Administrators on May 14, 2008, and  presented on the topic of “Effectively Evaluating Staff Performance and Communicating with Employees to Improve Effectiveness.”  The presentation focused on identifying opportunities to improve employee performance while, at the same time, building a defensible case for discipline or discharge.  Relying on their extensive experience in this area, Ms. Shafer and Mr. Roos discussed common stumbling blocks for employers and practical strategies to avoid those pitfalls.  Ms. Shafer and Mr. Roos both concentrate their practice in the areas of education and employment law.


March 4, 2008Andrew B. Cantor and Mark A. Hosterman were recently appointed Solicitors for East Coventry Township, Chester County, PA. Mr. Cantor also serves as Solicitor for Collegeville Borough, Collegeville-Trappe Municipal Authority, Cheltenham Township and the Zoning Hearing Boards of Rockledge and Schwenksville Boroughs. Mr. Hosterman also serves as the Solicitor for Red Hill Borough, Red Hill Water Authority and Northern Montgomery County Recycling Commission. Both are partners at Wisler Pearlstine concentrating their practices in the areas of municipal law, zoning and land use.


Febuary 20, 2008Jason J. Herron was reappointed to the East Vincent Township Planning Commission and was elected to be its Vice Chairman.  The Planning Commission is an advisory body which reviews subdivision and land development plans for compliance with law and conformity with good municipal planning practices.  Mr. Herron is an associate at Wisler Pearlstine and concentrates his practice in the areas of Real Estate and Banking.


February 1, 2008Joseph M. Bagley was appointed Solicitor to the Zoning Hearing Board of Lower Moreland Township.  Mr. Bagley is a partner in the Municipal Law Department of Wisler Pearlstine and focuses his practice on zoning, land development and other municipal issues.  He also serves on the Advisory Committee for the Civil War and Underground Railroad Museum of Philadelphia.


December 6, 2007Michael J. O’Donoghue was extensively quoted in the Philadelphia Inquirer article, “Montco’s Next Color: Green,”—published on December 6, 2007. O’Donoghue is cochairman of the Montgomery County Greenhouse Gas Reduction task force, appointed by the Montco  Commissioners. The task force, a group of environmentalists, college professors and municipal, transit and energy officials, is devoted to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the county. The article discussed the county’s pending approval of a plan to cut emissions, which would make it the first in Pennsylvania to do so. O’Donoghue commented on the plan and the task force recommendations, which include promoting residential energy efficiency and, for businesses, the use of telecommuting, carpooling and incentives to purchase and operate fuel efficient vehicles. O’Donoghue, who was appointed to the task force in January 2007, also serves on the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and Leesport Bank, in Wyomissing, PA. November 26, 2007Jeffrey P. Wallack, a partner in the firm’s construction law and commercial litigation departments, was a speaker on November 26, 2007 at a National Business Institute seminar in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania entitled, “Construction Law:  What Do You Do When?”  Mr. Wallack spoke about bid errors and corrections; remedies for non-payment, including the January 1, 2007 amendments to Pennsylvania’s mechanics’ lien statute; and dispute resolution procedures, including issues arising out of the new AIA A201-2007 General Conditions.  Mr. Wallack’s practice concentrates on the representation of contractors, subcontractors and owners in construction disputes and other construction-related matters, in addition to the representation of clients in commercial litigation matters.


September 25, 2007Mason Avrigian, Jr. and Jeffrey P. Wallack of the firm’s Construction Law and Commercial Litigation Departments recently co-authored an article that was published in the Construction Law Supplements of The Legal Intelligencer and Pennsylvania Law Weekly titled, “To Arbitrate or Not to Arbitrate?  That Continues to Be the Question.”  The article addresses various issues that parties should consider when considering arbitration as opposed to litigation as a means of dispute resolution.  Click here to read article in PDF format

July 16, 2007Ken Roos and Amy Brooks of the Education Law Department recently co-presented at the 2007 Pennsylvania School Boards Association School Solicitors' Symposium on Thursday July 12, 2007 at the Penn Stater Conference Center, State College, Pa.

Mr. Roos and Ms. Brooks presented on the topic of  "The Upper Dublin Debt Act Referendum: A Series of Fortunate Events." The presentation highlighted the advantages of the Debt Act Referendum, such as the one recently passed in the School District of Upper Dublin, over the Act 1 "back-end" referendums in connection with school district construction projects. Mr. Roos and Ms. Brooks both concentrate their practice in the areas of education law.


April 23, 2007Andrew B. Cantor was appointed to serve as a member of the Montgomery County Committee to explore Campaign Finance Reform. Mr. Cantor is also a member of the Montgomery County Election Board.  In addition, he serves on the Boards of Montgomery Hospital, Montgomery County Community College, Albert Einstein Medical Center and New Regional Medical Center.  He is also a Delegate to the Pennsylvania Bar Association House of Delegates.


April 19, 2007Jeffrey P. Wallack, a partner in the firm’s construction law and commercial litigation departments, was a speaker on April 19, 2007 at a National Business Institute seminar in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania entitled, “Using a Mechanic’s Lien to Get Your Money.” Mr. Wallack spoke about the January 1, 2007 amendments to Pennsylvania’s mechanics’ lien statute and addressed topics such as lien procedures and requirements, lien priorities, full and partial lien waivers, payment bonds, and “pay if paid” clauses. Mr. Wallack’s practice concentrates on the representation of contractors, subcontractors and owners in construction disputes and other construction-related matters, in addition to the representation of clients in commercial litigation matters.


March 27, 2007Megan Shafer, Esq., participated in a televised Panel Discussion on the Sunshine Act http://webpages.charter.net/gdsbmmllp/sunshine.htm  sponsored by the Radnor League of Women Voters. The Sunshine Act governs public access to meetings conducted by public agencies, such as School Districts, Townships, Boroughs and other local governments. Along with Ms. Shafer, the expert panel featured a current member of a local school board and the General Counsel for the Pennsylvania Newspapers Association.  Ms. Shafer concentrates her practice in the areas of education law and labor and employment law.
