Mason Avrigian was admitted to the Bar in l960. He graduated from Moravian College (A.B. 1956), Temple University School of Law (L.L.B. 1959), where he was Justice of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and Student Director of the Legal Aid Program. He was recipient of the Legal Aid Award of Philadelphia in l959 and was named as Special Assistant to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from l962 through 1968. Judge Avrigian was first appointed and thereafter elected to the Court of Common Pleas of Montgomery County’s 38th Judicial District (l977 to 1982). He graduated from the National College of State Judiciary in l978. He has and presently lectures for Pennsylvania Bar Institute on civil trial, family law, and ethics topics and serves on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Montgomery County Legal Aid from 1984 to the present. He has been a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s House of Delegates since l975, and Chairman of the Judicial Administration Committee from l984 to l988, presently Co-Chair of that Committee. Judge Avrigian was a recipient of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Special Achievement Award in l986-1987 and 2004. He also served as Director (1967-1969), Vice President (1973), and President (1974) of the Montgomery Bar Association and served as Chairman of its Judiciary Committee. As a member of the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, he lectured on trial practice in tort actions and family law litigation. He has served as a member and Chairman of the Governor’s Judicial Selection Commission on numerous occasions over the last 10 years. Judge Avrigian is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and past President of the Desmond J. McTighe Chapter of American Inns of Court.
