Ms. Shafer is an Associate with Wisler Pearlstine and concentrates her practice in the areas of Education Law and Labor & Employment Law. Ms. Shafer’s experience includes representing both public and private employers in a variety of labor and employment-related matters in state and federal courts and before state and federal agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, and the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
She has litigated matters involving various employment discrimination statutes, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as more traditional labor disputes involving the labor-management relationship and disputes involving individual employee rights, such as claims of alleged breach of contract and wrongful discharge.
In addition to litigation matters, Ms. Shafer regularly counsels employers in day-to-day labor and employment law matters, particularly disability and family and medical leave issues, harassment training, employee manuals and policies, and litigation avoidance.
Ms. Shafer received her B.A. degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Denison University in Ohio and her J.D. degree from Temple University School of Law. She is admitted to practice before the courts in Pennsylvania and New Jersey; the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and for the District of New Jersey; as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Shafer practiced labor and employment law at Morgan, Lewis, & Bockius in Philadelphia and prior to that, served as an Equal Opportunity Specialist for the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights.
